About the tournament

We are so excited to be having our Sixth annual Cobia East Coast Championship tournament. All proceeds will be benefiting the Gloucester Youth Guerrilla and Gloucester Dukes Highschool Wrestling teams. The purpose of this tournament is to make sure that money isn't the reason a child can't wrestle. The proceeds will go towards tournament registrations, league fees, equipment, uniforms, cliniques, and travel expenses. 

Wrestling is a sport that develops mental toughness, discipline, self-defense and brings kids together to build strong team camaraderie. No child should be left behind because of their parents financial situation.

“Once you've wrestled, everything else in life is easy.”  This simple and timeless quote from Dan Gable sums up all facets of the dynamic sport of wrestling in just nine words. Wrestling is not only considered a base sport for developing reflex, speed, agility and strength; wrestling provides the rudimentary life lessons that hard work, sportsmanship and ethics are rewarded. 

Wrestling builds physical and mental toughness and requires an individual and team commitment on and off the mat. Wrestling is an individual sport in which failure and success are always present. The endurance gained through perseverance, controlling psychological stress and emotions, and simple hard work, will follow each individual athlete far beyond the wrestling room and reside within their character throughout life. 

Donations of time, money and commitment to the sport of wrestling make the overall wrestling experience possible to all those who are courageous enough and wish to work toward their goals.

We are hosting this fundraiser to give children in our community the opportunity to pursue a passion that may not have been discovered yet in the art of wrestling. Wrestling is not just a sport, it is a sport that develops important qualities such as self esteem, sportsmanship, work ethic and leadership skills.
